Paul Schwarz I don't love this album. Quite ambivalent actually. Even SE = distinctly less exciting than orig. Buying triple-disc physical worth it for the DVD, warts and all for a straight rip of an imperfect but archivally interesting VHS. I'd LOVE raw rehearsal audio of practices for XXV recordings but fin prod too sanded down. Favorite track: Xeper.

XXV is the 25th-anniversary compilation album by Polish death metal band Vader. It was released in 2008 by Regain Records. The album is a collection of re-recorded songs from earlier Vader albums, from The Ultimate Incantation up to The Beast. The Special Edition includes three bonus tracks and a bonus third DVD with an old and rare live VHS containing footage from throughout the band's career.
XXV was recorded between July 2007 and March 2008 at Hertz Studio in Białystok, Poland, produced by Wojtek and Sławek Wiesławscy. The album is the last Vader release that features guitarist Maurycy "Mauser" Stefanowicz, and drummer Dariusz "Daray" Brzozowski, and the only studio recording with bassist Marcin "Novy" Nowak.

Also comes in special digipak box in a shape of cross with unpublished photos.
Includes 12-page booklet insert with CD1-1 to CD2-10 track specifications.

Pretty much the best Black/Speed Metal I've listened to since I learned about Evil Invaders and Vulture. Everything you'd love to be reminded of about this musical era is there. The influences are what you'd expect too: Motörhead, Venom, Bathory, early Slayer, Celtic Frost; aggressive vocals, tortured guitar solos, pounding drums; everything is fast, clear and still a little grimy, but without reverb cranked up to the max. Modern death metal just can't compete with this. No DAW, no quantizing of the drums, no aligning perfectly to the grid, etc. Doc really played this, this ferociously. And the follow-up, Black to the Blind, is even more nuts. To quote John Longstreth, Doc was the "baddest European drummer of his time". World Eater
